Dove

Dove

2006 - Traveling to Taos on a day-trip with a friend, we decided to stop and walk in some of the footsteps of historical figures(at least I did...).  The San Francisco de Asis Church in Ranchos de Taos was our first stop.  This is the sanctuary that Ansel Adams(and others) have photographed the back of.  In the twenty minutes we stopped to check it out, I was walking around trying to decide what would make a good capture in the mid-day sun(note the suns' mid-day alignment with the wall at the left).  I was looking at some abstract designs on the ground wondering what kind of image I could create when something flew by that caught my eye.  I looked up and the whole face of the church by the statue was lit up with shadows of birds flying away.  I raised my camera, but was too late to capture it.  However, I was in composition position when one straggler flew above the statue--and what a capture it turned out to be. Several people have commented that this is a much stronger image than if I had caught  the whole flock.  I thank them and agree as well.  About the title?  The shadow reminded me of a dove when I first saw the completed image.
